I just changed my call sign from KM4JDT to WB4OZM( my old Novice call sign in NJ back in 1976 was WB2OZM and I was able to get it!) Had back in 1975 my first rig, a Henry Radio Tempo One.
Received my Tech and General on 03-24-2015
Earned my Extra 12-12-2015
Got awared HC5DX May 1st 2017
I was born and raised in Northern New Jersey(Park Ridge) and as a teenager I got interested in SWL when my Dad purchase an old Hallicrafters S-76(with the HUGE S meter) I climbed my tall pine trees, installed a end feed 65' antenna with a pulley and old window weight, and I was hooked listening to all the ham, SW stations and other weird noise.( Remember, no internet back then, all books or mags for info) I became interested in CB radio as a means of two-way communications and received my call sign( KEU-5526) and worked the 11 meter band for a couple of years. My Dad was not at all too pleased when I installed on the roof a Moon Raker Quad antenna that I worked hard saving up with my lawn mowing monies. Soon, the 11 meter band got so unrulily, I had to leave it behind. Which made me focus on getting my Novice ticket with the help of an Elmer in 1977. I went to the FCC office and passed my 5 words CW and the test(which if I remember correctly, had more electrical diagrams that I had to hand draw than my General test I just took, just saying)
I am a Chef turned Remodeler and have been in business for over 20 years at my Home Remodeling Company. Had my own cafe back in 1991-92.
I got plenty of hands-on experience with my Dad remodeling old Victorian homes. I am an Avid cyclist( Still have my original road bike, a Colnago, hand built by Ernesto Colnago to my specifications in 1972), a cook, traveler and outdoors lover. I really love great coffee and collect different coffee makers; I grind and sometimes roast my own beans. I also have a nice collection of 1930-50's art deco tabletop radios. I have called north Atlanta home for over 38 years.
Now living in Ecuador for the past 7 years and go back to Atlanta GA for May/June and I do portable with my IC-7300 at the beach of Tybee Is and my long wire end fed antenna. What fun.
I have a QSL manager in the STATES if you want a Hard QSL card.
I love DX.. see you on the air.
